SAFE2READ - EMAIL ALERTER APPLICATION You can download the email alerter application here.
This is for Microsoft Windows 98, ME, NT (SP2), 2000. and XP. What it is The Safe2Read Email Alerter application runs as an icon in your system tray and pops up to tell you that you have new email on safe2read.com. It can watch for new mail for everyone in the family at once. Installation Instructions Save the file (s2ralerts_inst.exe) to disk and then run it. Accepting the default values (i.e. pressing Next) on the install will work fine. The alerter application will install into the
system tray (next to the clock) as a green envelope icon. ( Adding your email accounts Click on the green envelope Click the "Add User" button. A new user will appear in the list and a details panel will slide out to the left of the main application. Fill in the username and password of one of your safe2read email addresses. (you don't need the @safe2read.com part) If you would like a sound to play when this address has new mail, check the box "Play a sound for new emails" and then click on the [...] button to choose a sound file to play. You may have to browse in the filesystem to find a sound. There are many good sounds in the windows directory. If you want this address to be able to open their webmail without entering a password when they click their name in the list, check "Open webmail with no password". Do not do this for supervisor accounts if the children have access to the computer - they will be able to approve their own emails. If you want to add more users, press the "Add User" button and fill in the details as before. When you are finished adding users, press the "Hide Details" button to remove the details panel. If you ever need to change the details again, either right click on the user in the list or right click on the envelope icon in the system tray and select "Modify Users". Using the alerter. When new mail arrives the icon should start flashing red and green and the alterer will pop up on screen. Click on the name of the user who is shown as having new mail and their webmail will open. Remember to let this application through your firewall. It needs to be in communication with the mail server so it can tell you about new mail! If the sytem tray icon is ever a dark green, the alerter is having problems connecting to the internet. Check your firewall and your internet connection.
