I FORGOT MY PASSWORD CAN YOU TELL IT TO ME?

DO I HAVE TO READ EVERY EMAIL MY CHILDREN SEND? I DON'T HAVE THE TIME!

No, you only have to permanently approve each of your children's friends once. From then on, you will not have to do anything else. You will only have to do something when emails are sent between your children and somebody who you haven't approved or banned.

DO I HAVE TO USE WEBMAIL TO READ MY EMAIL?

No, you can use any regular email client such as Outlook or Eudora. See this page for details.

HOW MUCH SPACE DO I GET?

We set a limit of 50Mb per address. That is 500Mb (or 1/2 Gigabyte) for the whole account. Earlier accounts may have had a limit of 20Mb - email us if you want this raised. In fact, if you have a good reason to have more space (e.g. a school project with lots of movie files), email us and we will give you a higher limit - no charge.

HOW DO I TELL IF I HAVE EMAIL WITHOUT GOING TO THE WEBPAGE?

Easy, download our email notifier icon from here .  It runs in the system tray and pops up a message when you have email. Please note this is only available for Microsoft Windows at this time.

CAN I SEND BULK COMMERCIAL EMAIL USING SAFE2READ?

No. Definitely not!

CAN I USE SAFE2READ TO SPY ON MY PARTNER OR TEENAGER?

You could try but it probably wouldn't work. Safe2Read is a service to allow parents to protect younger children until they are wise enough to watch out for themselves.  It would take all of three minutes for a net generation teenager or an adult to set up an alternative email account with an unfiltered provider.  We have lots of teenagers with supervised accounts on Safe2Read but they do it because they TRUST their parents and appreciate the lack of spam.

HOW DO I RE-DIRECT MY CHILDS ACCOUNT TO ANOTHER EMAIL ADDRESS?

You can't. Giving your child another email address would defeat the supervision of outgoing mail.

I JUST GOT SOME FILTHY SPAM SENT TO MY SUPERVISORS ACCOUNT - WHAT DO I DO?

Please forward the email to spam@safe2read.com. Our anti-spam system will learn from it. We will also do some investigation of our own and report the senders.

SOMEBODY FROM SAFE2READ JUST SPAMMED ME

This is not actually something that has ever happened, but it is something we take very seriously. Please forward the email to support_team@safe2read.com. We WILL cancel their account.

HOW DO I DO SUPERVISION FROM MY WORK EMAIL ADDRESS?

  1. Log into Safe2Read using the administrator address for your subscription.

  2. Click the link Manage Email Accounts.

  3. Click the Modify User icon next to your supervisor email address.

  4. In the box marked Forward Emails To: , enter your work email address.

  5. Now all supervision emails will be sent to your work address.

Make sure it is OK with your employer to do this.

HOW DO i SET UP A SECOND SUPERVISOR (WHO IS NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR)?

  1. Log in to www.safe2read.com as the account administrator.

  2. Select 'Manage Email Addresses'.

  3. Create an email address for the supervisor (Create Email Address). REMEMBER THE PASSWORD!

  4. Back on the list of addresses, click 'Can Supervise' next to the new address.

  5. If the new supervisor wants to see their supervision emails at an external address (e.g. yahoo, gmail, your isp), click 'Modify User' next to their address and enter an external email address in "Forward Emails To".

  6. Log out.

  7. Log in as the new supervisor.

  8. Select 'Manage Email Addresses'.

  9. Next to the addresses for each of the children they are to supervise, click "Supervised by me".

  10. Tell the new supervisor their safe2read email address and password in case they need to change something.

DOES THIS WORK ON APPLE?

Yes, Safe2read works on any computer which can run a web browser and an email client.

DOES THIS WORK ON LINUX?

Yes, Safe2read works on any computer which can run a web browser and an email client.

I HAVE A PROBLEM SENDING EMAIL FROM OUTLOOK OR ANOTHER EMAIL CLIENT.

Firstly, check that you have followed the instructions here.

In particular, make sure that:

  • Your outgoing server requires authenticiation.
  • You are not using SSL.
  • You use port 2525 for SMTP (many ISPs block port 25 now).

I MADE MY CHILD ADDRESS THE ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESS WHEN SIGNING UP.

This happens at least once a day! Please email us and let us know what you want the administrator account to be.
